Frequently Asked Questions
PMP (Project Management Professional) is a globally recognized certification for project managers, administered by the Project Management Institute (PMI). It demonstrates that you have the experience, education, and competency to lead and direct projects.
PMP certification is ideal for professionals who have experience in project management and want to enhance their skills, improve their career prospects, and demonstrate their commitment to the profession.
To be eligible for the PMP certification, you must meet certain education and experience requirements:
- Option 1: A four-year degree (bachelor’s or global equivalent), 36 months of leading projects, and 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification.
- Option 2: A high school diploma or associate’s degree (or global equivalent), 60 months of leading projects, and 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification.
You can apply for the PMP exam through the PMI website. The process involves filling out an online application form, providing details about your project management experience and education, and submitting the application for review.
The PMP exam fee for PMI members is $405, and for non-members, it is $555. PMI membership costs $129 annually plus a $10 application fee, which can be beneficial as it reduces the exam fee and offers additional resources.
The PMP exam consists of 180 questions, which are a mix of multiple-choice, multiple responses, matching, hotspot, and limited fill-in-the-blank questions. The exam is divided into three domains:
- People (42%)
- Process (50%)
- Business Environment (8%)
The PMP exam duration is 230 minutes (approximately 4 hours). There are two 10-minute breaks during the exam.
